Park Program
Physical activity is a necessity for children, so they grow up strong and healthy. Our program introduces children to different types of outdoor activity so they find one that they enjoy and can follow as they grow.
Physical benefits of activity
- Builds strong bones and muscles
- Keeps hearts and lungs healthy and operating properly
- Improves circulation
- Promotes good posture and flexibility
- Improves balance and coordination
- Helps develop good habits to protect from disease throughout the child’s life
- Helps develop the fundamental movement skills which are necessary in life
Other benefits
It’s not just their bodies that benefit from being active. We know that physical activity can:
- Help your child sleep better
- Encourage a sense of belonging through shared activities
- Improve confidence as hey master new skills
- Improve concentration and ability to retain information
- Teach co-operation and sharing
What the children do in the Park Program
The park program takes our children outdoors into the fresh air where they can enjoy the sun and being surrounded by the natural environment.
It includes activities based on:
- Strength
- Balance
- Agility
- Cardio (the huff and puff stuff)
- Some activities will also include basic sports drills
They play structured games and activities designed to teach them to work and play together in harmony.
We have games which ask the children to explore their surroundings. This needs them to bend and stretch, incorporating exercise into a fun activity.
You are welcome to come and watch a session to find out more about it.
Kristina runs the Active Outdoor program once a week during school term.
Kristina Ramsay, who runs the Park Program, has a passion for health and well-being and this is reflected in her philosophy.
“We are among the top 5 countries with obesity problems and we shouldn’t be, considering the outdoor lifestyle which we so enthusiastically promote.
I believe we are role models for our children, they see what we do and mimic our behavior, unfortunately we all lead very busy lives (myself included). I believe we need to put as much effort in developing our bodies physically as we do mentally. Exercise plays a major role in your child’s development by helping them to focus. Physical education can promote cooperation, attentional skills, and social play.
My mission is to turn back the clock on childhood obesity, by creating a solid foundation for a great start to life. I will do that through our curriculum and particularly with our Park Program.
